It was the battle of the green compact SUVs in New Delhi as Auto Expo 2012 opened its doors to the media this week. Autojournalists were treated to sneak peeks of upcoming new products and concepts at the 11th annual show, which opens to the public on Saturday.

Bajaj RE60 -- The compact Bajaj RE60 is reminiscent of the green motorized rickshaws that dot the New Delhi streets. The eco-friendly RE60 will take on its Indian competitor, the Tata Nano.

Ford EcoSport -- Ford also unveiled a compact sport-ute, the all-new EcoSport. It features the automaker's smallest EcoBoost engine, with only three cylinders and one litre of displacement.

Suzuki Concept XA Alpha -- The Japanese automaker says its concept five-seater blends the "elegance and compactness" of a crossover with the "muscular and rugged DNA" of an offroader.

Tata Nano Pixel Concept -- The Nano gets sexy with gullwing doors! The tiny four-seater was one of the compact stars of the show.

Hyundai Hexa Space concept -- This roomy seven-seater from the Korean automaker is targeted at urban customers in their 30s and 40s who need a lot of room for all their stuff. The Hexa's seats offer multiple configurations: The centre and second-row seats fold flat for more comfort while the back-row seats fold flat to offer more cargo space.
